INFORMATION ON BEAUTY AND FITNESS:
Focus on Beauty: Tattoo Removal
What to do when the new wears off that tattoo.....So, you had an adventuresome moment and got a tattoo but now, well, you'd rather it wasn't there. There's good news. Tattoos can be removed. There are five different ways this
can be accomplished and you should research each one to discover what will work best in your case.
Salabrasion - A salt solution is literally rubbed into the tattoo area, under local anesthesia unless you are really a brave soul, to abrade the skin and is the oldest technique for tattoo removal on which we found any information.
There are those who feel that salibrasion puts a person at risk for infection and that other methods of tattoo removal are safer and more effective.
Injections of Saline - Just what it sounds like. Saline is injected at the tattoo site. This method tends to do more to blur the existing tattoo than to completely remove it and this seems to be the choice of those who, rather than wanting just to remove a tattoo, are desiring to have another tattoo on the same spot.
Dermabrasion - This is basically freezing and sanding your part of your body. It is manual sanding away of the tattooed area, after application of a substance that freezes the skin in that area. Dermabrasion can leave scars because most tattoos go past the surface of the skin and deep abrasion may be necessary to completely remove them.
Laser Removal - This procedure takes more time and is the most expensive. There are several different types of lasers available so it's helpful to research their different properties. Also, finding a laser surgeon who specializes in tattoo removal will
be beneficial. Removing tattoos with a laser are usually considered ablative, that is to say the laser literally cuts the tattoo out as in excision. However, there are non-ablative lasers used for other beauty concerns, such as reducing lines and wrinkles.
Excision - The final approach to removing tatoos is excision, or literally cutting the tattoo out of the skin. Excision leaves scarring too, of course, so the size of the tattoo to be excised can be a determining factor.
