What are tonsil stones?
If you have noticed lumps on or near your tonsils, and they have a sort of yellowish color with an unpleasant odor, you could have tonsil stones.

This oral health challenge is caused by sulfur-producing bacteria. When you have a sinus problem, postnasal drip or some other problem in that area, this bacteria can accumulate and become deposited on your tonsils. It is actually a situation where bacteria putrifies, which is why tonsil stones will have such a bad smell.

If you suspect you have tonsil stones, be sure to see a dentist and also rule out any other conditions of the mouth and throat, such as oral herpes or cancer. More Dental Care Information on Tonsil Stones

What is tongue scraping?
As unpleasant as this may sound, tongue scraping is not typically painful. Many people scrape their tongues as a way of reducing oral bacteria and thus, bad breath.

Effective tongue scraping will reduce bacteria, no question. However, it should be noted that this is a temporary fix and other factors should be explored for any chronic, offensively bad breath because it could indicate more serious health conditions.

Tongue scraping is accomplished by means of a tongue brush developed for that purpose, or you can use a tooth brush. One simply cleans the tongue by gently brushing the surface and all the little crevices. Instructions on how to properly clean the tongue using a tongue scraper
